Default Staffs Victorian badge

A colleague has recently purchased this item and would like any information regarding its authenticity and information as to what it is. Can anybody please help.Thanking you in anticipation.

I know nothing about this badge but it looks like a cast copy from the picture, the feed sprue was probably just below the mouth piece and was broken off rather than cut which gives you the reason for the damaged area, that's unless some can give you a better reply and tell you it's a good one after all.

The Tail of Stafford Knot is also missing no sign of being present also not a good sign either.

Cant comment on authenticity but the attached is from Dave Coopers book on the Staffordshire Regiments "Knotted Together "
