I'll have to search for it, but I have a photo of a Para, early 70's, providing escort for a farmer, he's not wearing a badge backing, I can't remember the details but he's wearing a Dennison so hopefully a battalion patch on the upper arm.

On a different tack, I have an AAC beret with large government tartan patch instead of a small dark blue one and a gap in the stitching at the top of the patch for the Black Watch's red hackle, not exactly a badge backing as such I suppose.

For some reason I can't find my photo of a Para in UN beret without maroon badge backing. I've just had another search, no joy.
It's adrift somewhere amongst thousand of photos and slides in the process of being scanned on to computer.

I am sure the GH wore it before the 1970s as I remember my brother having one on his beret when he was attached to them.

The Green Howards started to wear a Grass Green square behind the badge in the early 1970's and I believe the Devon & Dorsets did the same. Are these regarded as being badge backings ?
