Thoughts and Comments Please Part 1
Although I am aware of many of the pitfalls about restrikes etc and over the years I have been wary (although my GMGR I am not convinced about and the jury is also out on a Brecknockshire Battalion and CMP). I even avoided tapered sliders as a little while after I first started collecting I can even remember Members of the Salisbury Militaria Society telling me that tapered sliders were dodgy. Additionally, I was warned of makers’ marks on sliders.
I have just gone through a bag of odds and sods that I have carried around for years (Photo 1) – don’t knows, broken and repaired badges. I would be more than happy for people to give the tuppence worth. I shall not be offended and none of the badges are part of my collection. Photos 2 to 5 - Highland and Lowland Regiments, I am certain these are restrikes. They were given to me with the badges in Photo 6. Photos 7 and 8. Given to me by someone whose uncle was a Northants man. The WM is not in either KK. Interestingly it has a large key at the base of the castle. The rear has what looks like the remains of a slider and what looks like a broach clip that has been removed. Photos 9 and 10 this is a WM Devonshire Regiment that does not seem right. Part 2 to follow Chris |
