I have a Queens West Surrey's lamb in white metal, as I recall it's a badge that looked "good" to me but is slidered.

Thanks - being slidered I'd take it to be the latter.

Most likely. There were a few VB badges with sliders but as the VBs were slow to adopt the full sized cap badge: many retained the side caps, often badgeless, after the Regulars switched to peaked caps c.1905.

I hope you don't mind me adding to this thread? If it is not in keeping with the subject, I apologize.

Two Welsh badges.

The Welsh Regt. I have never been 100% on because of the very heavy crimp on the slider.

Certainly the old Volunteer Battalions wore wm badges, but that was because they were also required to wear silver lace.
Please, I do not wish to offend, but is your Welsh fusiliers plated? Also and this is where I don't mean to offend, but I notice that it has the fault running through ROYAL that is often seen on restrike 1916 economies.

You're right about Toby's example, it does have the flaw associated with the common copies. I'll post mine and my Welsh Reg't examples for you when I get home.

No offence taken at all, the militia and VB Insignia can be rather confusing because it changed after the Cardwell/Childers Reforms of 1881 in a rather gradual way up until the creation of the Territorial Force in 1908.

The badge whose image I posted is I think plated, but I no longer possess it.

Thanks for all the replies. I didn't think that my 10 year old post might receive any further attention. The cap badge I have is not silvered and looks like the one Leigh Kitchen has posted. I suppose, this is what makes cap badges so interesting. All the reference books don't have all the answers. I seem to be settling on a sweetheart or reunion badge. Thanks again for the replies.
