Romance and History in Regimental Badges
Looking for something else this morning I came across an article in a 1963 magazine.
I was surprised when I saw who the author was !! P.B.

Peter,
JWF Gaylor wrote a number of articles for the monthly Territorial Magazine in the 1960s and I have copies of a few of them. They formed the basis for 'Military Badge Collecting' first published in 1971. Tim

Tim,
I knew he used articles in the MHS Bulletins as sources for some parts of his book. Do you have any copies of The Territorial Magazine with articles on the 42nd Division? I had forgotten about having the copy of the magazine in my post, in fact I don’t know how come but I have 3 copies of the same edition. Regards Peter

Interesting that he mis-identifies the Judean Battalion as RF Jewish Battalions, the 25th Frontiersman is a post-war League of Frontiersman badge and the Leeds Pals shown is the tramways badge. Not fogetting the Cardiff Pals collar and the Tyneside Irish shoulder title.

I think it maybe a Corporation rather than Pals badge? The illustration from a the Meer Jones & Co poster (printed during the 1920's? It shows some badges accurately, others inaccurately, some fantasy, some if not all, appear to be sweetheart brooch designs). The earless owls again.
