Default Endeavour - spot the howlers?

Watching (the usually superb) Endeavour on ITV as I write this.

How many howlers / anomolies you seen so far?
Wife has already told me to 'shut up' 3 times, and we are only about 3 minutes in!

1960 patt. smocks only available in small so that they had to be worn open- compulsory regulations in force to have hands in pockets. Often the case that I enjoy a period drama only to have it spoilt in this way when the focus turns to the military.
On the other hand I have recently been watching The Crown and thought a decent effort was made with the Guards and Household Cavalry-not saying perfect but certainly not bad. Regards, Paul.

Stable belts worn outside No 2 Dress Jackets. Massive embroidered arm badge more suited to a blazer pocket. But a good story!

We could go on and on about this program - Full Colonel as CO, Lieutenant Colonel off his rocker, Second Lieutenant with the belt etc etc
Was No 2 dress in general issue early '60s? or would other ranks have been wearing BD?
After all it was just a TV program......

Supposedly set in 1968. No 2 Dress was on general issue by then as I joined in 1969 and was issued with two suits, one for "best" the other as "barrack dress". We also had 1960 pattern Combat Suits, 1937 pattern webbing and 19?? Greatcoats! However I think that the olive green Jersey Heavy Wool did not appear until the early 70s.

Forget the dress inaccuracies think about minefields in the UK. The writer should have been fired himself. However did anyone else note the reference to Umboto Gorge - a nod to Blackadder!

At least they invented a new Regiment with cap badge and avoided the King's Own Fusiliers! http://www.britishbadgeforum.com/for...ctureid=120406

With the cap badge it looked to be missing the orb- wondered if intentional or not. Lets see if any make it on to the forum! Regards, Paul.

The Bedford MK didn't enter service until 1969 so not correct for 1968. I would also question whether the police in 1968 would still be using a 1955-57 Jaguar 2.4 mark 1. A bit past it's sell by date I would have thought. Gorgeous looking motor all the same. As for that old Renault truck, I wonder where they found that, not a vehicle that was ever sold in the UK, though many were used by the Germans in WW2. I get sadder by the day!!.

Certainly did, plus, when a list of soldiers names was being read out, Windsor Davies was amongst them. Apparently the writer likes to throw in a 'Hitchcock'. Last weeks episode had a Crossroads Motel set in the village of 'Kings Oak'.

It is merely a television drama, nothing more!

Indeed it is, and a fantasy regiment so why all the fuss? British Regiments did and do unusual things like wear their Sam Brownes back to front, their sashes on the wrong shoulders and salute without head dress. Civilians have never understood the Army, even the ones working at MOD.
