Default Walter Lovelock Royal Berkshire Regiment 1890-1902, 1914-1919

Hello,
I am researching my Great Grandfather Walter Lovelock's military service, in the hope of creating a photo remembrance of him.

I have been attempting to find out what type of uniform / Cap / helmet badges he may have worn during his service, to frame with his photo and replica medal.

I'd sure appreciate an informed opinion, images very much appreciated.

1890 to 1902
Pte. Walter Lovelock, Royal Berkshire Regiment.
Walter served in; 1st Battalion, Malta, Bermuda, Halifax (Nova Scotia), Gibraltar and 2nd Battalion, South Africa (Boar War).
I understand Walter would have been awarded the Queens South Africa Medal with 1901, 1902 and Cape Colony Clasps.

1914 to 1919
4th Berkshire National Reserve No. E106
No.5 Supernumerary Company No. 4601
Royal Defence Corps, 54 and 52 Coy No. 26881
18th Battalion Essex Regiment No. 204295
Back again to, Royal Defence Corps, 52 Coy No.92989
I understand as Walter did not serve overseas he was not entitled to the First World War campaign medals.

Again, an indication on badges Walter would have worn, will be very much appreciated.

If someone on the forum could help, I'd be indebted.

Kind regards Tim

He would have worn the Berkshire Cap badge. from 1897 onwards.

The Berks reserve was a supernumery company of the Territorials so would have worn the Berks cap badge as before.

The RDC existed from 1916-18: details here. There was a Royal Defence Corps cap badge: which he may have worn or he might have retained his Berks badge.

The 18th Bn Essex Regt was a Home defence battalion formed in 1918. He would probably have changed to the Essex cap badge.
