WW1 VTC worn from 1915 onwards. Many VTCs but not all changed over to the GS coat of arms after the Volunteer organisation was officially incorporated in 1916.

Now that is nice and probably an unknown in the VTC field. As far as I'm aware Leeds did indeed eventually adopt the GS cap badge of the Volunteer Force, as the C.A.V.T.C. became known in 1916.
WRVR.jpg With thanks to the Great War Forum, a nice head and shoulders of a member of the 'West Riding Volunteer Regiment'. Leeds VTC went onto assist in the formation of the Leeds Group, W.R.V.R., which consisted of the following;- 11th(1st Leeds)Bn, W.R.V.R. 12th(2nd Leeds)Bn, W.R.V.R. 13th(South Leeds)Bn, W.R.V.R. 15th(Ripon)Bn, W.R.V.R. |

Hi Yorkie, I believe it is this one.
CENTRAL ASSOCIATION OF VOLUNTEER REGIMENTS 1916-1919 The AVF Formed in 1914, subsequently Amalgamated with the Central Association of Volunteer Corps in April 1916 to become the Central Asson Of Volunteer Regiments. In October of that year individual Cap & Lapel Buttonhole badges were replaced by a Small Royal Arms Badge (Similar to LC or the WW2 GSC,but the size of a WO Badge) Regards Simon. |

My pleasure Yorkie, but I understand that the 40mm high one is the WW2 General Service badge. The WW1 badge worn by the VTC was a 50mm high.
I still have to get round to measuring my samples to see if I have the 50mm high one, but it is the same type of badge. Cheers Simon. |

Very nice find Simon - not seen one of these before, but that's not unusual with VTC's. As you probably know, I collect these to Yorkshire.
Now what was it you were after from me,,,, :-) cheers |

Leeds VTC
Simon,
Lovely badge; nice to see the named slider, too. This badge does feature in K&K, along with some other Pre-1916 West Riding badges. These are the West Riding Volunteers (1688), the Huddersfield District Volunteer Corps (1689), Leeds VTC (1690) and Wakefield VTC (1690). Would be great if you would allow me to add the picture to my VTC album (which needs a lot of updating). The Leeds VTC badge already features, but not with a named slider. The more usual construction (which mine is) is die cast, with Fattorini stamped across the bottom, and the typical fattorini flat lugs. The Leeds badge is also a fairly standard Fattorini design, seen for both Nottinghamshire and Shropshire, but with the addition of Oak Leaves in both cases. The ends of the rifle barrels usually mark the end of the wreath; Leeds is slightly odd in retaining the rifle stocks at the bottom af the badge, but losing the barrels! That's the great thing about VTC collecting; almost every badge / thread shows up something new! Tim |

Nice badge, it looks to be chromed from your photo's? If so, a variation that I don't have, more the shame. Cheers, Marcus |
