Default Not a badge but a bayonet

I know this isn't a badge, but could somebody put a date on this rusty bayonet? Also which rifle was it for?
Thanks in advance.
Phil.

Hi Phil, it looks like a German WW2 Mauser K98 or possibly a WW1 KAR98 bayonet. German stuff is always well marked so you can find out for sure by looking for the gov't acceptance marks (waffenampts), they should be sprinkled over the bayonet.

Regards,

Greg

Hello Phil, looks to me like 1907 pattern .303 bayonet with a modified hilt and a shortened blade.

Hi Phil

I agree with Greg too. I'll stick my neck out a little bit further and say German K98 WWII but as Greg says the marking should date it.

Also the markings will dictate its value despite its poor condition, if its marked to a rare unit it may be worth more than you suspect.

Cheers
Rob

Thanks all for your valuable information. Very interesting. It was donated to my local RSL, so will be going in a display case.

Phil.
