Default 18th "Public Works Pioneer Bn" Middlesex Regt

Can anyone help with this one? The first photograph shows two 18th Middlesex badges, the left clearly a copy (pictures 2 & 3) as it has a whitemetal base scroll and looks artifcially aged. The right (pictures 4,5 & 6) however has a GM base scroll, the braze to the slider is a nice colour, there are two sweat holes behind the "Middx" Scroll but it looks rather "New". I've seen copies where a base scroll has been added to a regular pattern badge, but I think the correct construction should be a solid GM back with an applied WM "Middx" Scroll with the GM "Public Works" Scroll attached to the rear. Otherwise scroll on scroll would be too flimsy! I've shown a regular pattern badge to help illustrate my point (Second post)! Is the badge geniune or a very good copy? Does anyone have an Original 18th Bn that they can post for me to see?

Andy

Strange. It's OK when I follow it through even using the one in your reply, nine pages in all.

I've seen a very heated discussion on here somewhere, maybe one of the mods might be able to access a link please?

Are you a member of the site? (I'm not, so blocked when attempting to open photos)!!

Is it Good News or Bad, for me?

I think bad I'm afraid. It's all to do with the feathers and scroll ends which are very distinctive compared to a regulars.

If you go to the Buywise site they have one for sale (£325!!) and it's identical to the ones posted on the GWF (which I recommend everyone to join).

Looks good to me going on the scroll ends, crimp line and general condition. Trusted dealer or did you get lucky? Cheers, Paul.
