Don't get me started on my Scouts stuff. I was roaming London markets as Rhodesia wound up and picked up all sorts. I'm sitting in the study with a frame on the wall next to me with 2 Scouts wings, a Lovers wing, dress and combat APJI/SAS/RLI/AD/Lightbulb and various PJI etc.
I haven't got a scanner, but I will send photos of the rank slides... Ian H |

Regarding the Special Forces Brigade patch (Black scorpion on white)
The Special Forces Brigade patch was not worn by the Selous Scouts or the SAS. My information is that soldiers attached to Pfumo re Vanhu (Spear of the Nation) were entitled to wear the Special Forces Brigade patch. The Security Force Auxiliaries (Pfumo re Vanhu) were formed in 1978 as a result of the internal political settlement under the leadership of Bishop Musorewa. Musorewa’s guerrillas were used as the basis of a new unit within the Rhodesian Security Forces. The opportunity was used to recruit and train more men from the civilian sector with the primary purpose of deploying them in the Tribal Trust Lands (TTL’s) to protect their own homes. |

The scorpion badge is in the frame solely because of its 'Special Forces' name. Back in the 80's one of the ex Rhodies said that he had been involved in 'sorting them out' with his FN MAG. Sounded nasty. I suspect if he knew what was coming he'd have done a lot more sorting out. I was staggered at the the Troopie slang he used. 'Switch my slayer to slay' was a phrase he used regarding his gun.

May well have been but Pfumo re Vanhu was part of the Rhodesian Security Forces towards the end of the war.
Pfumo re Vanhu.jpg The Rhodesian Special Forces, the Selous Scouts and the RhSAS never wore Brigade patches. They wore the Army patch on both shoulders. |

More info regarding Pfumo re Vanhu (Spear of the Nation) from Dudley Wall's excellent site http://www.freewebs.com/dudleywall/pfumorevanhu.htm
This information also from Dudley who served among other things as a platoon commander with the SFA's. 'The SF Bde scorpion flash was issued right at the end of the war and was generally worn by those army personnel at Army HQ who were responsible for the SFAs. Anybody who served with the SFAs was entitled to wear the badge but it was not issued in any quantity for this to happen!' |
