Hampshire rgt .labour coy
My G. grandad was with the Hampshire regiment No 3 infantry Labour company, transferred from R.B. in 1917 aged 50 which may explain that a bit , I believe the hampshire coy was absorbed into the Labour Corps as he was then in 180 coy L.C, my question is what badges would be worn, would it be the Hampshire as i believe some continued to wear regiment badges or would they have worn the labour corps badge, the cross pick and rifle was that a pioneer and not a labour corps collar badge ? so this would not have been worn .

The cross pick and rifle was a Pioneer and not a Labour Corps collar badge.

Thank you. I have been told since that they may have worn the LC shoulder title so i am now thinking Hampshire cap badge with the LC titles, though his service record shows transfarred to Labor Corps think it was 180 coy, his medal card state Hampshire rgt .

Nothing much to do with 180 Coy, but I have a group photo of 91st Labour Company (HQ Detachment) BAOR July 1919.
At a rough guess about 100 men, one or two of them are wearing the Labour Corps Crown over pick, shovel, rifle & wreath cap badge, the rest the cap badges of a multitude of infantry regiments including those of Scottish regiments which are worn on glengarrys and T.O.S. No collar badges are worn. |

Thanks Leigh, As i said transferred from R.B to Hants rgt feb 1917 No 3 Infantry labour corps at Depot, bumped upto corp this might have been around the time the company was absorbed into the Labour corps as 180 th Company LC, in April and joined BEF March 1917- Nov 1918,attached to the Canadian Corps, when he was given class W of reserve Dec 1918 and discharged Feb 1919.
So it is possible he was issued with labour badge but whether he wore it ? and probably wore the LC titles. Iain Hope this makes sense... We try .. |
