Marcus,
There are a bewildering amount of different collar badges to the York and Lancaster Regiment and it is notoriously difficult to pin them down to specific battalions. The first one you show is obviously officer quality as it is silver and gilt. I'm sure you know there are various officers collars with subtle differences and I have a feeling (although have no positive proof that can be referenced) that they are makers variations rather than a pattern made for a specific battalion. The second ones with the enamel rose centres I have seen before and I have an example, but again, its difficult to pinpoint to a specific battalion other than to say its either the 1st or 2nd VB between 1896 and 1908. Unless someone comes up with a brilliant and previously unknown reference source (such as a pattern card) I doubt if we will ever know. Ivan |
