UNKNOWN CAST SOUTH AFRICA OVER TIGER BADGE
Hi all,
Does anyone know for sure to whom the attached badge belongs? I have had it suggested to me that it is a mess dress collar to the 1st Hallamshire VB Bn of the York & Lancaster Regiment circa 1904 - 1908, I have nothing at all to substantiate this and as its a tiger it could quite possibly belong to another Regiment with the South Africa Battle Honour. Kind Regards, Marcus Last edited by guest123a; 21-07-15 at 06:42 PM. |

Hi Marcus,
I wonder if it is something to do with the Hampshire Regiment. The Tiger is very similar to theirs - front paw raised, tiger looking at you, tail curled over back etc. I believe the 2nd Battn - saw active service in South Africa 1900-1902. Maybe a Mess waiters badge? Regards Ian |

The 1st Volunteer Battalion, The Leicestershire Regiment had a cap badge from 1905-1908 that looks the same, but had a scroll 1st V.B. LEICESTERSHIRE underneath.

Hi,
Just to throw my 2pence worth in. It's a cast badge, so local made, perhaps before the unit left South Africa? I am going to say that I would associate a scroll on a badge saying "South Africa 1902" with a Territorial/Militia Battalion, as for most it was their only battle honor? Hopefully others will put this to bed my theory and I'll have learned something new!! Regards, Dave |

Thanks for the reply and suggestion, The Hampshire's could well be a contender and as its cast probably Indian made but as its on lugs not a pin I don't think its a turban badge, I simple don't know, hence my post. Kind Regards, Marcus |
