PATHFINDER BADGE MYSTERY
I thought i found a PATHFINDER WW2badge but later realized it faces the wrong way...so then what is it as its got the correct Pathfinder brooch pin?I read always about the various types of pins/lugs/screws and what each badge that looks like the RAF eagle has to have.
Thanks |

Possibly a sweetheart brooch. It may have been made from an arm eagle - does it show any remnants of sawn off pillars?

As mentioned, it might well be a sweetheart badge. These were made in anything from brass, to gilt, to gold with diamonds depending on how much money you had!
But they were also worn on the collars of the jacket of Volunteer Aid Detachment (VAD) nurses attached to the RAF, and also door staff at the Air Ministry, in both cases inwards facing. So its another possible use. The badge itself was used in many ways (and still is although generally not in brass now) by many air forces around the world, a lot of them manufactured by British companies. |
