Not the sellers fault if people want to throw their earnings away, this seller does have good items, but the odd wonky item does appear!

The KLR badge that Peter highlights is a very well known copy. It appears in bi-metal, reverse metals, WM, GM, Bronze etc etc etc.
The only "all brass" KLR badge of this type is a 5th Bn badge with it's blackening worn off - which this isn't !!!

You do get a certain admiration for some sellers imagination, used to great effect in their listings:

And also astonishment at the prices that some badges seem to be reaching:

Having said that, I would certainly give 99p for it ! If the seller correctly identified this as a 1878 - 1881 ORs "Universal" helmet plate, plus a Gloucester back badge I am sure he would get some decent bids.

That happened to me once when I listed a Worcestershire badge, standard brass pattern WW1 starting at if I remember $5. I ended up selling for neary $45.... that's over 30 pound....

It gets worse ( if that is possible ):

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RARE-WW1-t...item1c33e0d844

Most genuine Kings badges of whatever type have a smooth finish to the body of the horse.

At least some of the sellers are not stating flat out - lots of "?" being used.

Perhaps we ought to think about a way of helping people identify the good sellers via some sort of recognition of acceptance against a standard??

Reasons for joining the Forum: to find out more about the history, design and development of cap badges. Monetary value comes second at best.
This worldwide obsession with money will hopefully be seen as a sign of the times in the (near) future.

For £35 someone thinks that they know what it really is.

Alan,
Yes some one has done well on both lots, now where can I find some St.Andrews and some sliders ???????????????

Of course it also means that someone ( or more than one person ) appears to have paid well over the odds

You could do a Ph.D. on what people pay for items on E bay and why they sometimes appear to pay well over the odds.
