Hello Brian,
You know what, just thinking about dates and the Carbineers, I don't think I've ever seen a Kings Crown example with marks prior to 1903, so with sixth cycle Birmingham marks that would be a date letter "d" but, I'll have to sit down and think more about that!
Regards Frank

I am far from an expert as far as date and makers marks go, just used one I found on the web and it gave me that result.

Thanks for correction.

Some BMR stuff for interest. C.F. Forder came from Ixopo and was the only bloke in the regiment to be wounded in the 1906 rebellion. He was KIA in WW1 (2 Lt with 3 Royal Sussex Regt) and is buried in Belgium.

Hi Dudley,

thanks for sharing.
I see your QVC BMR slouch hat badge has the hook for holding up the brim.
Your collar with the green backing? The first time I've seen the collar like this. Surely not a cap as its facing the wrong way.

Your man was unlucky.

regards, Iain

Hi Guys

Thanks for all the great posts and pictures. Some great examples, badges carry so much History...I think Frank once said "badges were worn on the Battlefield, medals issued later"

Regards
Brian

Hello Brian,
You have a good memory, I did make that point to Brett on the ABW forum!

Glad the goodies are of interest. Frank's quote is excellent and hits the nail on the head! The badge with the backing is definitely a collar badge and was worn as such if memory serves me correctly from an article read some years ago.

Kind regards

Dudley

Hi all,

I know this started as a NC thread and we've drifted onto the BMR but does anyone have the large NCO's BMR "boot" badge, O488? Just wondering how common it was...

Iain

Not too common I should guess. This is the only one I have ever seen. With cap badge to show the scale.

Mike

Mike,

thanks for sharing; I think Andrew Dinnes also has one, but I don't know of any others.

Frank,

it's too easy to drift off topic, a bit like FM radio!

It's a pity really as its good to keep different units separate for reference.

At this point it would be a natural progression to go to the NMR

Incidentally on, Dudley's examples, he posted, there is a BMR badge with a green backing that is cut around the badge as opposed to being square. You may recall I once posted a NMR also cut to shape.

regards, Iain

Iain

This NMR helmet looks like a casting, really have to get something done about compiling a comprehensive article on them.

Nice BMR badges Mike, never seen one of those large versions.

Brian,

You're right it is a cast badge, but for a beret. I do also have a cast brass helmet badge, I guess they are both WWII.
