Canadian Artillery Buttons
I've added some RCA buttons to my collection, but I have a couple of questions regarding the dates of use.
1, Is there an EVIIR version which comes between 2 and 3 shown here. 2, No.1 (left hand example) when in use with the British would date from the period 1855-1872, but from the construction and backmark of this example I suspect it could be a bit newer? All help gratefully received. Rob |

Hello Rob
In his book on Buttons of the Canadian Militia, Eric Smylie illustrates several 'EVIIR' versions of the artillery button. He shows five variants in use between 1901 and 1910 - a combination of different crowns and 'ERI' and 'EVIIR' cyphers plus one with a garter and the title 'Royal Canadian Artillery' around the lower rim below the garter. He also shows 4 variants of the 'GVR' button used between 1910 and 1936. Roger |

Thanks for the replies
So my William Scully 3 cannons button must be made after 1877, several years after the British Royal Artillery had discontinued using this style of button, but did they carry on in with it in Canada? And I have some EV11R buttons to watch out for plus variations. Rob |
