Question Cloth S/Titles Rank Difference?

Hi All

Was there a difference between an Officers cloth shoulder title and an Other ranks? Or were they all the same size on issue?

Major Faulkner of the 154th (LY) FR RA, sporting a very neat smallish title.... in WW2

Compared to this Gunner from the 153rd (LY) FR RA

Cool Titles

I don't know about the difference in title sizes, but an interesting picture of the Gunner from the 154th (LY) FR RA. The bugle he is wearing on the left hand BD pocket looks continental. What was the reason for this?

I have asked the question about the badge...... its on the forum somewhere.... I dont think we got a difinitive answer though? Looks like a "Post Horn" to me? He is also wearing an odd sleeve badge that I cant identify (could be a Con/Sig .... by I dont think it is)?

Doh!

If you post a pic of the unknown badge on the lower left sleeve somebody might recognize it.

There are a few Corps cloth shoulder titles around where the title is in full (and larger) rather than abbreviated. For example ROYAL ELECTRICAL AND MECHANICAL ENGINEERS possibly worn by officers instead of R.E.M.E. also ROYAL ARMY MEDICAL CORPS rather than R.A.M.C.
There are also some infantry tiltes with a "The" in front of the Regimental title and a "Regt" after that are perhaps officer pattern. For example "THE LOYAL REGT" and "THE HAMPSHIRE REGT".
Your man seems to wearing the formation badge of the Guards Armoured Division (white eye on dark blue shield with red border) and the crossed flags of a signaller on the lower left arm.

Back to the original question. IMO the officer has had his shoulder title cut down so that he is different from the OR's. I would thnk that ALL titles were the same size and shape, roughly on issue or maybe his is a private purchase??
