Hartfordshire OSD
I bought this in Dorset over the weekend. From the direction the Hart faces and the short lugs it is probably a collar badge. The size is almost identical to the Bedfordshire Regt cap badge of the same design.
It isn't a 'normal' Hertfordshire Regt collar nor can I find it in Churchill or John Sainsbury's books. I suspect it to be Victorian, especially with the 'A' instead of 'E' spelling, however, the 1st Herts VB, Beds Regt wore a Bedfordshire Regt cap badge with a supplementary title. Wilf, over to you to identify please! |

Hi Andy.
What a great badge. I've never seen anything like this or in fact, Stephen's offering, from which this thread originated. Two of them now eh. Unfortunately, I can't offer any suggestions to answer who what or when, but with two of them now known, the answer must be out there somewhere. Regards Brian |

Amazing. I have been collecting Bedfs/Herts for about 25 years [on and off] and have never seen these before.
The Hertfordshire Militia glengarry badge was spelt with an A. HARTS. They became the 4th Battalion [Hertfordshire Militia] . The Bedfordshire Regt. So just a guess.....early OSD badges for the 4th [Herts Militia] Battalion. Graham. |
