Good news...

Who is the auctioneer please? They could do with some praise.

Good result Andy, you have been extremely lucky. In the main the sale of goods act and distance selling regs don't apply to auctions, so it really is sold as seen.
Seek on this forum and you shall learn. It certainly looks like you have an appetite for very rare badges, so be prepared for a long wait and a lot of outlay!
cheers
Paul

Despite the all covering disclaimers please check the Consumer Rights act.
Even auction houses have to abide by it.
Also speak to trading standards.

Again I don't think these apply (in the main). Worth reading this:

The auctioneer was Towsnend Auction Galleries Ltd in Norfolk. David Townsend fully agreed the Lots were put in late and not fully inspected. He takes full responsibility for this and refunded my debit card in full.
An excellent outcome and a delight to deal with an honest Auction House who put their customers and reputation first.

The front is a little more distressed and there's a nice variation of the paper backing with stitching holes. I saw one very similar at the last Bromley Militaria going for £120. Can't say if it's the one on eBay but it had the same white paper backing with holes.

Graham
It attracted 21 bids and sold for £79.89 but has just been re-listed. Possibly the original winner had their attention drawn to this thread...

With an "old paper label" to reverse.

That is a shocking fake, its so worn on the front yet the back is mint. Doesn't even look like its been sewn on to headdress at all.
