Default RAF Levies Silver & Brass Badges

Attached are images of 2 RAF Levies badges in Silver & Brass finishes. I understand the Silver badge is not the type used by Officers but matches that worn by Other Ranks. The Silver one weighs in at 14.70g & the Brass one 16.44g.

The Silver badge is a recent acquisition (stamped SILVER on the rear). The Silver one may well be a Sweetheart but it has lugs on its rear which to me suggest otherwise. Any thoughts?

I am afraid the SILVER marked badge looks like the typical FAKE, fantasy badges produced by Badgeman2005 on ebay.

regards

Unhappy I had a nasty feeling this was the case

Thanks for your swift response 'manchesters'.

If it is indeed a fake made by the 'fantasy' badge maker you suggested then I hope my one is unique and nobody else is consequently duped. The seller did say they thought it was not original so I can have no complaints there.

I just hope it took the maker a good amount of time and effort to produce.

Hi Andy,

No, it was someone else but was off ebay. Unless they use that name as a user it was definitely some other person. They had 100% feedback for the last 12 months.

I thought these badges were made where the units were raised, not in UK, so I would find it hard to accept them having a stamp saying 'SILVER' or anything else.
Cheers,
Alex

It's not so much the casting (although theatre made badges in silver are normally a bit rougher) I've never seen one marked 'Silver' although I have on occasion seen local hallmarks.

But the badge is the ORs type. The officers version has just the crossed daggers, and these are in silver.

Badgeman 2005 has a few different usernames, including Croftmilitaria and Badgeman 2012.
