Default RAF AE Brevet - Could this WWII

I recently acquired this AE Brevet and I wondered if it could be an unofficial WWII Air Engineer badge rather than an Air Electronics brevet which came into force in 1955.

The construction suggests a possible early type and it appears different from the normal 1955 & post versions.

The Brevet appears to have been worn.

Although I have been a member of the Forum for quite a while this the first time I have attempted to post a thread.

Any ideas would be most appreciated.

The backing looks to me like a typical WW2 backing that I have on a couple of aircrew brevets. However, the AE brevet (Air Electronic Officer/Operator) was not around during WW2 and came in some time during the Cold War I think.

The trade of Flight Engineer carried with it an E wing. However, when it was first announced it was reported in the press as both Flight Engineer and Aero Engineer, leaving independent tailors to start selling both FE and AE wings.

As far as is known no photo of the AE wing in use in wartime has come to light although examples of the FE wing and Photos of the FE wing in use do exist.

I have seen this type of construction on wings through to the late 1950s so without provenance it's practically impossible to confirm this is an Aero Engineer wing.
