2nd Battalion northhamptonshireYoemanry ww2 badge
My great uncle was killed in operation Goodwood on the 19th July 1944 as a radio operator in a tank as part of the 2nd Battalion Northamptonshire Yeomanry. I would like a Northamptonshire yeomanry badge to go with his medals but would like a real one and not a copy or restike, can anyone give me a rough estimate of how much i could pick one up for?
Thank you in advance Regards Brett |

Brett,
That is one of the most copied yeomanry badges and there are half a dozen for sale on ebay every week. The copies are very, very good and defeat even the experienced collector. I have one that i regard as original. It has a slider, the fore legs are voided, the horse stands pround of the rest of the badge and it has a slider. There is an excellent photograph of one in Wilkinsons Book. I will dig out a photo. Alan |

Here it is. The copies are lugged as well as slidered and the better ones even have the voided front legs but all the copies that I have handled are flatter badges; although perfectly die struck.
The camera flash has lightened the badge quite considerably. Alan Last edited by Alan O; 05-01-08 at 08:47 PM. |

Brett,
Here is an example of lugged 2nd Northants Yeo badge which I believe is a good one. Voided front legs. Very strong and although slightly curved it passes the bend test. It is also quite dirty and I haven't cleaned it. Cheers Chris |

Restrikes for the Northants Yeomanry were being made in Northamptonshire in the late 1970s by the London Badge and Button Co Ltd of Irthlingborough...
Very good ones too, complete with all the bits mentioned above... My father got me one as a small child along with a number of others...They were official suppliers to the MOD at the time...

Hi, I've only seen two that I've liked. Both had a leather backing piece. This had been pre-stamped with a space for the slider. Both badges had lugs and the leather had been cut to take them.
