Help with Cameron Highlanders badge
Hi All
I just bought this in an online auction. I believe it was mis-described as a 'Cast Copy' when I think it as actually a cast silver officer's badge. There is a maker's stamp on the back though it may be a retailer's mark from a tailor rather than a manufacturer, unfortunately very worn and seems to have been double-struck, which adds to the lack of clarity. When I zoom in for a close look, it appears to possibly be 2 rows of letters and I think the bottom one may be 'GLASGOW'. Were there any Glasgow based suppliers or makers? Any thoughts or opinions welcome. The lugs are very long and good solid construction. Thanks in advance. Cheers, Alex |

Hi Thomas
Many thanks for the reply. Probably Lawrie as I doubt if the Elkington name would fit in the stamp that is there, Anderson as well I think. Is Anderson Glasgow though? I thought it was an Edinburgh tailor? Cheers, Alex |

Hello Alex
Some more possible Glasgow contenders for you, some obviously too long I suspect! Fraser Ross & Co, Moore Taggart & Co, Hugh Morrison, R S Muir & Co, Gardiner & Co, McClymont Dewar & Co, Robert Smith. All tailors/outfitters operating in Glasgow at roughly the right period. Wm Anderson & Sons I have as being Edinburgh based. Roger |

Thanks Roger. I suppose I'll never be able to ID the maker or vendor 100% but I think I can safely say it is a private purchase officer's badge, so not bad for a little over 10 quid!
Cheers, Alex |

Wm Anderson was I believe indeed based in Edinburgh but advertised as Edinburgh and Glasgow.

Alex, try rubbing charcoal or graphite dust into the lettering then take a photo from a side angle.
