Cyclist Corps MM serving with the RAF?
This photo of an early RAF officer has two unusual points. He wears the ribbon of an MM and his buttons appear to be those of the Army Cyclist Corps. Comments welcome.

Hello Jon
Just to agree that the buttons do seem to be those of the Army Cyclist Corps! It does seem to be an odd mix of uniform. I wonder if it is just a photographer's prop? Roger |

There are medal index cards for 74 RAF Lieutenants who previously served with the Army Cyclist Corps. At least one of them must have been awarded the Military Medal before being commissioned.

I have tried; I used the National Archives on line medal index cards search using Army Cyclist Corps and RAF in the regiment section and lieutenant in the rank section. I then cross referenced the names on Ancestry to view the Medal Index cards as you cannot search Ancestry using two regiments.
None of the MICs had M.M, on them, some MICs to M.M. winners have M.M. have it, others do not. F Shackleton A.C.C. 9600, later P13011 MFP, does not have his M.M. mentioned on his MIC. Charles Levi Ackland A.C.C. 6531, Walter F White, A.C.C. 19, and William John Pittock A.C.C. 3032 all have M.M. nest to their names. None of these men were commissioned into the RAF. |
