Not a beret badge
Moving along here is a cloth badge I have been unable to name.

Bewakers Politieke Delinquenten (guards of political delinquents). Usually men who physically failed to make the grade at the Stoottroepen, who performed guard duties, e.g. at Camp Vught where NSB bigshots were detained.

Your sleeve badge is the heraldically incorrect version with the sword pointed downwards, in heraldry a downwards pointed sword needs to be covered by something else, e.g. a shield. An upwards pointed sword is heraldically correct. This incorrect version is relatively common, mostly found unworn because it was rejected. The correct upturned sword version is very rare.

Thank you.
Rather odd symbols for such a task. Marc |

This patch was also worn by members of the POD, Politieke opsporingsdienst.
Their task was to track down and arrest traitors after the war and bring them to justice.( those guards were part of that organisation) regards, Albert.

Any comments on my post number 28? Marc |

Translations almost never cover the idea behind the terms for 100%.
After the liberation of the Netherlands people were of course eager to take revenge on, or at least bring to justice, those who worked for the enemy. Either in the open or as covert traitors. The organisation(s) we are talking about here were created to let this happen in an organised way. Their names must be interpreted with this in mind. Politieke Opsporingsdienst To track down those individuals, part of them were simply at their homes, but others were on the run. Bewakers Politieke Delinquenten To guard the prison (camp)s where the were hold in custody. Before and/or after their trials and most probably also to save them from revenge.

Going back to the beret badge for the Transport Corps [Troops] (Aan- en Afvoertroepen), which came first; 5 wheel nuts of 7 wheel nuts?

And by the look of them I agree with that.

That is what I thought, but, there are a few that regard 7 as the first pattern, with one being shown (with a thin backing) as worn between 1945-1950 Nederlandsch Indië. Also the top of the Crown on that one is below the top of the 'W'.*

BTW. while they show that in that article (about a 1945-1949 unit) and those "milkmaid" badges belong to that timeframe, it is not 100% sure the beret badge is from tthe same time (also it shows age). It could have been added to the article because iit fits what was worn.
