Default Cap badge worn by a General

Could someone tell me if the cap badge worn by General Dempsey and Marshall Montgomery are in metal or embroidered ?
Based on the photograph I have the impression the badge is in metal but I 'd rather be sure.

Correct - Major General Sir Allan Adair, commanded Guards Armoured Division 1942-45, so wearing a bullion General Officer's badge on a black (armoured) beret. An additional clue that it isn't Monty is the lack of a Royal Tank Regiment badge.
