Default Weird 4th/7th Essex

One that currently resides in my repro tin...

I'm interested to see what Essex/TA collectors make of it?

The front is normal BM
The reverse has the same "anodised" finish that you see on some of the CCF badges (similar to my old Stamford School badge from the '70's)
Base metal SA scroll with the same finish

It can't be right, but worryingly it has sweat holes, decent lugs sn't bendy and had the scroll been brass and without the funny finish to the rear it seems to share a lot in common with originals...

Paul,
Are you confusing anodised with braze spill?

Andy,

No.....the whole of the reverse has this finish.

It's the type that starts off gilt colour and then wears down to silver colour.

Default Weird

Has this badge been lacquered or varnished at some time, and the 'finish' subsequently gone off?

Stephen.

Hi Paul,
I would keep this badge in your repo tin.

My one with lead soldered loop.

It uses the storks to support the lower scroll. Regards, Paul.

I've attached two more photos.
One shows traces of the finish on the lugs
One shows the outrageous monkey metal scroll

It's going back in the repro tin with the lid firmly shut. The one in my collection is like Wardog's with the same method of scroll attachment.

I've listed it because I haven't seen one like it before. A few improvements by the forger and it would have fooled me.

Very unlucky mate with that badge, I must admit it would have fooled me, I myself since joining the forum have ad my eyes open to how good some of these so called original badges are, I have been taken in with one or two myself, the lengths some people will go to deceive us is very worrying, before I buy in future I will ask many questions especially when paying top dollar.
All the best PHIL
