Some info on this wing please
Hi all,
This wing is described by the seller as: "Beautiful, original World War I Sterling Royal flying Corps pilot badge pin. This is in perfect shape. The blue enamel for RFC is intact without breakage or cracking. The pin works perfectly. It is Sterling marked and makers Mark. I do not recognize the maker Mark. It is from my personal collection of World War I aviation memorabilia. It measures 35 mm across." Not knowing anything about RFC wings,I asked him if it was a pilots' wing,or maybe a "sweetheart" piece. Here is his reply: "This is a period piece. It is likely worn with a mess jacket or walking out dress. It is not a standard size uniform wing badge as you can see. Uniform RFC badges are cloth." So,my question is,would this have been worn on a military uniform,or civilian dress? And is it a WW1 era piece,or postwar? Thanks for any help.[IMG][/IMG] |

Looks pretty much unfinished, the wings, wreath and crown look to have been forgotten come enamelling time. And definitely a sweetheart brooch.
