Arm of service strips, Duke of Wellington's regiment, 49th division, '43-'45
Hi all,
I've seen a fair amount of photographs pertaining to the 'Dukes', but this additional (yellow ?) AoS strip surprised me. I believe that this insignia was worn by either of the battalions that served in the 147th infantry brigade, in order to distinguish the 6th battalion from the 7th battalion and vice versa. However, I haven't been able to find any information to substantiate this assumption. Any information regarding this matter would be appreciated. Cheers, Insulinde. |

Regimental flash?
Isn't it a regimental flash, red over grey?

You could be right, Rolfi. I hadn't thought about that.
However, I do think it's rather odd that -if this is indeed a regimental flash- there are no other sources that mention it's use. This is the only picture, that I know of, that depicts a soldier wearing the additional AoS. The research continues! |
