Ox & Bucks LI by Gaunt, plated example

A very pleasing badge, 1898-1958 pattern for OR's in W/metal, but worn by officers plated or in silver from 1915 onward according to the light bobs site.

A nice badge Jerry, I have a similar plated badge to the Liverpool Scottish with the same w/m makers plate, I thought it was chromed but not thoroughly convinced and it may well be silver plate as it needs the odd wipe with a cloth.
It obviously dates pre 1937.

An interesting comparison Paul.

The seller of the Ox & Bucks badge said it might be chrome or silver plated, time will tell perhaps if it starts to tarnish. I am happy either way, though obviously silver plated would be better.

It's an odd badge, as OR's badges on loops were only worn 1889- circa 1905, but with north-south loops. The lack of voiding between the cords and tassels difinately makes it an OR's pattern.
Simple silver test: pull it against paper like a pencil, if it leavess a faint grey line it is silver, if not it's not silver.

I agree with Thomas.

The same badge but in GM for the Sherwood Rangers are often seen with a Gaunt tablet and EW loops. I wonder if this one is possibly brass under the plating?

I'd been wondering the same, but couldn't locate my Sherwood Rangers badge to check that it had the Gaunt plate rather than another (it does).

I had a look at various dealer sites and an identification of this as Sherwood Rangers Yeomanry seems correct with E-W lugs and Gaunt tablet.

A last question, why have it plated, is that for bandsmen or ?

Still need an officers version in Silver/plate for the Ox & Bucks Li. I have seen one and can get one easily, though they are a bit more pricey than this was.
