From the pen of the philosopher emporer, Meditations Book 6.
Consider how many things in the same indivisible time take place in each of us, things which concern the body and things which concern the soul. So thou wilt not wonder if many more things, or rather all things which come into existence in that which is the one and all we call the Cosmos, exist in it at the same time.

Marcus Aurelius sestertius Rome mint 33mm 26.28gms.
Ob: Laurate draped and cuirassed bust right. M ANTONINIVS AVG TRP XXV111.
Rev: Jupiter seated left, holding Victory and sceptre. IMP V1 COS 111, SC IN exurge. These particular titles date the coin between Dec 173 and Dec 174 AD.
Due to the way the reverse side has had all the edge chipped off and the fact that the SC has been obliterated suggest this piece may have been used as a weight or gaming counter.
RIC 1098.

General Nogi Russo-Japanese War.
Large wall hanging six feet six inches long.
A poem with various signatures (unknown) dated 1906, together with a cartoon drawing of General Nogi on horseback all within a gilt embossed rectangular frame.
An approximate translation reads.
Mountains and streams
Trees and plants more and more desolate
Bloody winds from afar
Battlefield again a military horse stands still
A man is silent
Standing outside of Kinshu

This is an adaption of the poem KINSHU-JO by Nagi Maresuke.
General Nogi captured 203 Meter Hill overlooking Port Arthur in December 1905, bombarded and destroyed the Russian Fleet with 11" howitzers.
The mournful tone of the poem reflects the fact that eight thousand Japanese soldiers lost their lives on the hill including Gen Nogi's son.

Both General Nogi and his wife commited Hara-Kiri when the Emperor Meiji died in 1912.
