Default WWII S.A.S. wings sewn on cloth

Hello Gentlemen,

What do you guys think about this pair of WWII S.A.S. wings that are still sewn on a piece of material cut off a battledress?

By the way, how do you guys post thumbnails instead of full images? I have not been able to figure it out.

Thanks

John

Thanks Gavin, nice collection you have there. Would you say the wing I posted is an original WWII period wing, or post-war? Even after looking at as many threads as possible on WWII S.A.S. wings, I still can't figure out what I am supposed to be looking for on original pieces.

Thanks for the instructions Mike.

A bit of a minefield, as there was a few units using the same or similar wings plus theater made ones, and of course the naughty ones....made by our colonial cousins....

Hi John,

I think this is a post war wing, it is more up swept than ww2 examples. You should also always be wary of badge stichted on BD material, often done on purpose so you can not see the backing. The stichting brown threads would also infuriate any RSM

Cheers,
JB

I think the stitching has attempted to cover up the upswept wings.

It's a thumbs down from me!

Thank you gentlemen for your comments, but I am surprised there have not been more.

I had some doubts about these wings, but wanted confirmation before passing on them. I am still trying to learn what to look for to determine originality and what period they are from, so the comment about being wary of badges sewn to cloth is very helpful.

Default Wings

Friends,

The wing on BD material is definitely post war, I think from the late sixties or even early seventies. The good news: it is original.

BD went out in 1959, at least in the regular army. I have not seen that wing on BD so far.

I have never seen a wing sewn on with a cross stitch like that. If you take a good look at the stitching, how on earth could you do that on an actual BD, not a piece of BD material? Also, who would use a thread of that colour and not dark blue?

If you liberate the wing from the BD cloth, it is not a bad piece. 35 pounds max!

Cheers,

Johan

If the guy who did the stitching was a surgeon who would want him to patch them up - Frankenstein may be?
