Looks like the picture is reversed? Name tags on left side and cap badges.

Looked at the picture, knew something wasn't right, couldn't figure it out.
The point of the picture was formation patches on combat dress. Never seen that before outside of U.N. missions.

Ed, your watermark is right on top of the epaulet, is it the Canadian Airborne Regiment slip-on?

Default Authorized?

Can anyone tell me if the wearing of the SSF badge on combats was authorized, or just done? By authorized I mean permision granted by NDHQ to wear the patch on combats, and not from the CO or formation commander?

Not documented. I haven't seen anything in LAC.

Just a note Bruce, wasn't NDHQ renamed CFHQ in the 1960's? That may be a route to go in looking for information.

Early integration/ unification documents refer to CFHQ, later and up to today as NDHQ. CFHQ amalgamated with the civilian components of the DND to form NDHQ in 1972.
I haven't been able to find anything on formation patches authorized for wear on combat dress in Canada. I wonder if the SSF managed to use that as an excuse to wear them on combats by nature of their role. Granted I haven't been looking long.

A research suggestion, as an avenue to check, I would look under the CFHQ files in LAC.
