MMG Corps fake?
I have a few Machine Gun Corps badges that I'm happy with but this Motor Machine Gun Corps badge I feel is fake. The detail I think is very good obverse and reverse but the finish and colour looks odd. The slide is short but has been bent at the. Opinions please?
Many thanks Martyn |

Martyn .... I have just purchased a (Firmin) 17/21 motto that has a slider that looks the same as the MGC.... take a close look at it, is it made up of two sheets of brass laminated together? It also has that same bulge at the top of the slider... as if they were from the same collection? I purchased my motto from Calgary, AB, in Canada.

Many thanks
That's interesting. The one on my MMGC looks as though it's a single piece of brass but the shape is similar. It's the finish on my MMGC that I'm not keen on although the detail is very good. Martyn. |

Thank you. I can see some possible joining. What do you think about my MMGC?

I dont collect the MGC..... there are some on here that do.... I think Julian (KLR) is an MGC collector and a good authority on the subject.

I don't like the overall look of it, I think artificial aging has been employed.

Many thanks. I've had it a while but copies are so good now. Some I can pick out as copies now having looked at threads and on line and just looking on reliable articles but others are very difficult. This one looks good apart from possible contraction marks (from casting) on the MMG banner and some marks on one of the guns. However, it looks more like a stamping than a cast. It also looks like it was lacquered at some time but this could be an attempt at artificial aging.

Having looked at it again I'm convinced it's a piece of well fabricated junk.

Its definitely die struck, not cast.

Proper MMG badges should have "fat" Vickers guns. These badges - with the standard MGC issue badge - are all dud.
