Default 1924 RTC badge

This is a cast brass example of the 1924 reversing tank Royal Tank Corps (RTC) badge. The RTR website has a great section on their badge and states that the reversed tank had a brief existance as it was soon noticed that it was going backwards when worn on the new black beret. The Offrs soon had new ones made in silver but the ORs had to wait for official ones to be made. The band continued to wear the badge in brass for some time after.

Tanks mentioned that he believed that a cast brass one was right so I put up this one for comment. I bought it from a chap in Australia and believed it to be an old copy.

Default retreating tank

I have had this one in cast silver since the mid 80's or a bit earlier. bought from a UK dealer who swore it was a good'in. I wouldn't have a clue.

Hi, gilt and w/m, also cast brass which seems to resemble the F&S silver badge. This would be the wrong sequence so I have my doubts. Sorry for wrong information.

Hi, this would appear to be cast from the F&S w/m version. If it's right or not is another matter.

ps. nice collection you have there (and on the other thread) great to see it.

Hi Andy thanks for your thoughts, lack of definition is this to rear? front appears well struck but it is thick! so might not come through -the lugs do appear somewhat iffy, anyone else with views happy to hear them and if someone can post a proper example to compare it with and allow me to see what I ought to look for id appreciate it cheers billy

Hi Billy

As a "retreating tank" it's rubbish but if you were to describe as a "withdrawing tank" I would say it's a cracker!

Best wishes

Gordon

Default Hallmarked silver reversing tank.

Good evening.

Would a hallmarked silver example of KK 1921 or 1922. Ex. Hugh King Collection, via Mr Bosley, be genuine enough? Currently on my desk.

Enjoy.

S.T.

Hi Billy, your badge is a casting of a version that was made latter, I think for depot staff or band. The actual badge is quite rare. The more common '23 badge is slightly different and usually has the lugs replaced by a slider again probably for depot or band staff. I can see no reason for the casting. There is a cast brass badge, presumably Indian made, that is based on the officer's bronze badge which probably got out there before the o/r's. Silver Tourist I would like to see your silver badge too if possible. Mike

Default Hallmarked silver reversing tank.

Good afternoon.

For an image, see Bosleys' Sale Catalogue illustration, 16 May 2007, Lot 394. One of the Postal Sales if memory serves me correctly.

Enjoy.

I bought this a part of a lot of cap badges. It certainly looks right to me.

Hi Alan, there are two versions of this badge, one with a long slider and one with a shorter slider and both slightly different in design. Whether they are both right or only one is, is open to question. As there has been no showing of the early silver badges also here are the 1923 and 24 badges y and z h/m, Mike
