CEF Cameron Highlanders
Hello All
I have run across a bit of an odd duck! I have a collar that by every appearance should be CEF. It is numbered and named 79th Cameron Highlanders. The collar doesn't match up to anything in Mazeas pre and post WW1 nor does it match with Charlton or any CEF references. I have searched Cameron Highlanders in the threads and read all 200 plus with no luck. Looking for someone who is in the know! and willing to share their knowledge. Open guesses, are still better than what I have. I have attached pictures of the front and back of this mystery. Chris PS the badge also has a maker's mark. thinking Dingwall

hello, here is a link with a similar badge, a collar worn during WW1 by the men of the 79th Cameron not enlisted in the different CEF Battalions (43,174,179)

Thank you,
It is funny that your link directs me to where it does. The badge in question came from Auction #124 lot C258 and I just dropped an email to them. All the best Chris

If you have a copy of Source of Pride Joe Harper mentioned this collar in it. Here is what he said. That is the only information that I have on this little badge.

Thanks Don. There were several unique collar badges come out of Manitoba during the First WW.

I have the book in question, and never even gave it a thought! Well, it is off the bookshelf now and on my side desk.
Thank you very much! I was certain someone could point me in the right direction. Question--- If I am using a well known reference number such as Charlton, or Babin is there a sorta excepted rule for adding a new find or a known find that is not listed? I made a post the other day for another badge that had an unknown maker's mark. It was for the 175th CEF with A.B. as the maker's mark. I listed it in my collection using the Charlton pattern 170B-50W. Any thoughts on this? Chris

Chris, adding badges to one of the reference systems is not a controlled practice. Doing what you suggest will work for you, but unless others know the addition it is a bit meaningless.
The mm A B is a partial makers mark for A.B. Cook. They are a documented maker for the 175th.

As always fantastic info on AB Cook! I wonder is my picture of A.B. would be any help in the Marker's Mark listing? As to letting others know, at one point and sure if I do some digging there is a corrections for a number of known authors would that be a good avenue? The combined knowledge on this site could fill a hundred books on some of the many mutual topics, from Cloth, Cap, Collars, buttons etc. I have made the change to my collection making reference to Cook. Thank you again. Chris
