James Taylor is wearing NZ Rifle Brigade badges which suggests the photo was taken in New Zealand prior to his embarkation and posting to the Canterbury Infantry Regiment.
Although Taylor embarked with the 14th Reinforcements, he was a member of "G" Company, 5th Reinforcements to the 3rd Battalion of the NZ Rifle Brigade.
