Open for Business
My thanks to the powers that be for establishing this new section.
I'm sure I will not be the only one who finds it useful. There is a great variety of insignia relating to Home Front uniformed services from the Home Guard to the WVS, the River Emergency Service to the Women's Junior Air Corps. And that's only the Second World War. Jon |

Very happy to see this Jon and it's an area I have become increasingly drawn to. The various On War Service badges, and the myriad of official and unofficial badges for the home front are simply fascinating.
I'll kick things off with this, I have posted it perviously: http://www.britishbadgeforum.com/for...ad.php?t=62989 and had some great ideas from members as to where it fitted in in the scheme of things, but any further info welcome. It is maker marked JA Restall. Cheers, Tim Last edited by Chipper; 14-09-17 at 09:44 AM. Reason: typo |

Exactly the sort of things this section should be covering. There is a great lack of published material on the WWI Home Front and I don't doubt that the knowledge and experience of the Forum's members will help to fill that gap. We've already made a great start on VTC badges.

MTC Drivers for the Blood Transfusion Service
Just to kick off the section on WW2 I've attached a drawing of a cloth badge included in a report compiled by the Mechanised Training Corps in around 1943 of all the badges worn by their members who were serving by that time with a large variety of organisations.
It's meaning is clear but I have never seen one. Is there an example out there? Jon |

Great to see this new section of the forum.
Such a variety of insignia and thankfully the potential for great guidance from experts such as Postwarden, and others. Mike |

I like that Chevrolet in post 4, a proper van if ever there was one. I've never seen a vehicle sign-written for the MTC before, fascinating stuff.

I am delighted to see this section given its own slot. It covers such a variety of badges and offers a real chance to broaden ones knowledge of this collecting area. I look forward to studying the wealth of knowledge that forum members will certainly have and a chance to see some lesser known badges. Thank you Jon for your suggestion.

Credit for creating the new section goes to Mike. I have merely moved all the old threads into it. If I have missed any in other sub-forums then please PM me and I can move them too.

Just a note. This sub-forum is for all Commonwealth / Colonial home front insignia.

A great suggestion for what should prove to be a very interesting and informative new section of the BBF!
Cheers Colin

Good move team
Having been relatively quiet recently on the collecting front due to other commitments, it's good to see this new area.
Good drills Jon |
