Default WW2 Green beret....NOT

Hi Guy's,

Stay clear, this is post WW2.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/222633449585?ul_noapp=true

Nice to make that little bit more money by taking the badges off and selling them separately

What is this hobby coming too?

Irv

Irv,

The seller is a member here with his own website.

perhaps you could tell us why its NOT 1943 and he could tell us why it IS 1943.

Makes for an interesting read.

regards

The Commando's beret (Army) contract during the war didn't have the half moon stiffener behind the the badge. Even the RM commando's used the same beret without this piece. RM berets post war were then ordered by the Marines this time with the stiffener. The only RM berets with this piece during the war were the blue beret with the red flash.

If someone can show me any different I will shut the F*** up

Also,

Running stitch is missing around inside edge. Not sure if there are air rivets (brass) but I can't see them in the pictures shown, an important point to prove it's WW2. I might suggest that it's more likely to be a 1948 than a 1943. Should also have the broad arrow and code letter for 1943, another important point to prove a ww2 beret As the printing is good this should be clear to see. All these points may be there? But the half moon insert is a bad point for a WW2 beret.

All the 'British Beret Basque Ltd' (WW2) I've see have the 'arrow code letter' stamped close to the main stamping. There is no sign of this stamping even though the makers mark is still strong??

Whilst I'm not a fan of the said beret, I have seen several GENUINE WWII berets with the RM stiffener applied (Presumably by the individual or the unit).
So discount it for that reason alone...

I likewise have a beret from a Royal Marine Instructor who served 1943-45 with a stiffener, but it was one he had made himself.

I cannot comment on Royal Marines beret`s but it is disappointing to see an established dealer offering this:

As already stated: the stiffener, absence of overlap of leather sweatband and rayon ribbon in the 12 'o clock position, the two stiched diamonds are spaced too closely together, the angle of the stitched diamonds apprears to be incorrect.

Regarding the angle of the stitched diamonds, this is what I seem to see (picture no1) with the manufacturer's name running in the middle of a double square. Picture no2 shows the name properly running inside a double diamond. Excuse my poor Paint skills.

The text looks like letter stamps from a diy shop.
Quick question, drawstring is not standard on berets?
