Default Kimberley Regiment Officer Badge???

Guys,

I got this one today, described as an officers badge. A nice heavy badge and a bit smaller than the normal OR version. (Cameronian badge in pic for comparison)

Is this an OK badge? When was it worn and did it have a badge backing?

Looking forward to your replies,

Cheers, Bill

Hi Bill,

all the KR Officer's badges I've seen are usually 2 piece and is 42mm at its widest point.
The OR's badge is 52mm at the widest point.

This does look like the Officer's but maybe a new one piece version?

regards, Iain

If I were going to buy a Kimberley Regiment officers badge, I'd certainly want a good three piece example!

Thanks for the reply guys.

The badge is, I think, a 2 or 3 piece badge. I'll try and get a couple of photos when I go for lunch to show this better. I'll also measure it for correct sizes.

Bill

Hi All
I think this is the more modern officers badge. The early ones were probably gilded silver and the later ones gold chrome/anodised. I have the 2-piece and this one piece in my collection. Both more modern than the lovely one shown by Frank.
Cheers,
Alex

Gentlemen,
Just to be quite clear on this, the original officers badges were mercurial fire gilt on copper and were retailed by Messrs Hobson from inception, in three pieces, as shown in my original post in this thread, moreover, they were still being made well into King Edward's reign, to the best of my knowledge, they were handed down within the regiment as late as the Second World War.

Hi Frank
You're quite right, they were supposed to be handed back if you left but over the years the numbers dwindled as people kept their badges so the new ones had to be made. I have yet to see on of the old ones come on the market though I know of a few in private collections.
Cheers,
Alex

Hi guys,

thanks for the info about the badge.

It measures approx. 43mm square and appears to be 2 part badge.

Some more pics as promised.

Do any of you know if there was a backing for it?

Cheers, Bill
