I got this one today and was wondering if it was OK?

It is the smaller size badge, is this a cap badge or something else? Any idea of a date?

I noticed it has had the edge trimmed for some reason too.

Looking for opinions on this one. I personally think it's OK but looking for clarification.

43mm x 48mm? Could be a cantle badge, but the one I have had N/S fittings prior to a W/E brooch fitting.

I did think of that too, no signs of any other fittings having been N-S. I'll measure it when I get home from work.

A smaller version was worn by the 2nd Btn, 1917-18 and painted bronze according to K&K.

I have the exact same badge from the same die but it is brooched, an original fitting E-W. No sign of having been bronzed!

I suspect, as Rob states a 2nd Bn badge? Defo not the sporran badge which has long N-S lugs!

I think the badge of Tinto's on the right is the one attributed to the 2nd Btn and was made in the Middle East and I believe was commissioned and paid for by the CO, but I may be wrong.

I didn't know the 2nd Bn had a smaller badge I can't see any signs of bronzing but will have another look.

Yes mate still looking for backing scans. Got a few to to start off with but will have to guage how big a job it would be to see if definitely going ahead with booklet.

I was under the impression that the badges bought by the CO were not only bronzed but also had a pin fitting for the pagri.

The white metal lugged one is unlikely to have been one of the 2nd Bn badges in that case.

Alan is correct. The bronzed badge was brooched and had a Gaunt plate, see attached rear views of badges shown.

I thought that this badge was made in the Middle east, but obviously Gaunt made them, as from the backs picture.

Were all of the 2nd Bn badges bronzed and pinback, or was the Wm lugged version worn too?

Hi Bill,
The 2Bn London Scottish (who served in Macedonia and Palestine) wore the same badges as the 1Bn. The smaller bronzed badge was a puggaree badge, worn on a sun hat.
