Default 87th Battalion CEF

I have never seen a cloth CEF formation sign on a helmet cover before. Was this done during the war? If yes, how common was it? Are there any photographs showing such covers being worn? Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

They certainly painted the shells with the signs so cloth on covers seems most likely.
