Farley Mowat, but what shoulder title?
Farley Mowat served as an officer with the Hastings & Prince Edward Regt, then moved to 1 CID in various capacities, ending the war as the officer commanding 1st Canadian Army Museum Collection Team (not sure if this is the official designation?).
I think the attached image is from this time in his army career. Any ideas as to the shoulder title he is wearing?

It appears to be a metal title that says 'Canadian war correspondent'. Are you sure that's Mowat? What is the source for this photo?

I agree with Bill. This is not Farley Mowat.....
This is a photo of Mowat as Intelligence Officer for 1st C.I.B. (or perhaps when still with the Hasty P's) http://www.thestar.com/entertainment...ley_mowat.html Jo

Maybe not. I have never been that great at facial recognition... That is why I concentrate on badges. Looked at the eyes and the lips, seeing similarities...

Sorry, Bill. The image is from LAC. Only notation is correspondent.

I think this fellow has some similar features to Mowat, but it is not him. As Jo's earlier post shows, Mowat was a little more youthful and babyfaced at the time, and was not a War Co at any time during the war.
The shoulder title appears to be similar to this one in a screen capture from the 1945 NFB film about War Correspondents, 'Headline Hunters' (4:16). I could not find any better/clearer example. However, it is very similar in shape/design to more common generic/British War Co. metal titles but with the addition of Canada/Canadian? across the top. Repros for sale: http://www.ebay.ca/itm/c0257-WWII-Ca...item5893c0a5ff Photo of Canadian War Co., Matthew Halton, he is wearing a 'British' shoulder title but Canadian GL collars. He worked for both British and Canadian News services, and was based out of the UK before and during the war. His biography written by his son and journalist David Halton (Dispatches from the Front) is an excellent read.

Various nationality title repros are being sold by a well known report vendor...
But gives you an idea of the wide variety of styles. It seems to me between the variety of metal and cloth styles/types, most of these titles are likely private purchase.

Hi Bill
Here are the types of cloth titles worn by Cdn war correspondents. Some also wore British war correspondent insignia. The metal titles were not often worn, and the pattern in the image I posted is the only example I have seen, other than the one you posted. (There are multiple images of war correspondents in the LAC files I have been reviewing and none of them appear to be wearing metal titles. But, that is consistent with the directives that metal insignia was not to be worn on battledress. Of course, war correspondents were not subject to the same rules as the active army.)
