Militia button ID help?
Hi Gents,
See attached a recent addition of a pre 1855 button I believe to be a militia button. I can't find this in Ripley (unless I have overlooked something) but suspect it is Warwickshire or Worcester ? This style of lettering is found on examples of the Worcester button (I have an example if needed) but without the wreath, so I'm leaning toward that. Any thoughts? Cheers, Roy

Here is a comparison;
My new button with wreath and letter WM (Worcestershire Militia?) on the left and the known Worcestershire Militia (Ripley 270) on the right. Of note is the unidentified button has no rim so is coatee (pre 1855) were as the right example has a rim so is 1855-1881. My logic (such as it is) is that the new button is an earlier and previously unrecorded example of a Worcestershire Militia button. Cheers, Roy

Hi Andy,
Thanks for that. I think it's a reasonable conclusion in the light of any other information. Cheers, Roy

Hello Roy
I agree, Worcestershire Militia, a very logical conclusion. Roger |

Thank you Roger,
Worcestershire it is then - at least until any new information surfaces. Cheers, Roy
