Default RFC Cap Badge - Second time lucky?

Hi All,

After being burned last time can anyone tell me what they think of this?

It looks small to me so I'm also wondering if it's a cap badge or a collar dog.

Thanks,

Michael

Looks good to me, a cap badge going on the size

Do you think it is spurious and if so, why?

Hi Frank,

I didn't know what to think.

I bought one last week which I thought was ok only to find out it was no good. This one looked smaller and newer than the bad one I had and I didn't want to waste my money again.

I've now realised my relative in the RFC was an officer so after all that I need the bronze version but that's confused me even more. The one's I've looked at all look as if they are cast because the reverse is smooth. I don't know of that's right or not. I need to get into people's albums I think.

If you are trying to find an (RFC) officers service dress badge in bronze do NOT buy it if it is NOT cast !!

Ok, top tip thanks a lot.

I presumed they would be the same as other cap badges where you can see the detail on the back.

A quick look on eBay and they range from £20 to £50 and there are bronze, silver and brass ones with lugs, blades and sliders all claiming to be original and all claiming to be officers.

I have so much to learn.

Michael

Hello Michael,
It looks "newer" than the one you had, well, if that was the one you placed in your last thread in this section, I certainly think that the reverse is actually the case, that one did look new, because it was, this one certainly does not look new to me, it looks what it is, a hundred years old!
Regards Frank

Hello Michael,
I think the first thing to do would be to cast your net a little wider, there is rather more to life than ebay, original RFC officers badges are worth more than that.
Regards Frank

Thanks a lot Frank, I completely agree with you about casting the net wider than eBay although to be fair the dodgy one in the last post came from a small dealers site!

I think the newer look for me was that the fake one was darker while the real one looked shiny. As I say I really have a lot to learn.

I think "a small dealers site" not to use again!

Very probably, yes although I got an absolute bargain on a womens junior air corps badge from him.

I suspect, like me, he didn't know what he had and the RFC was sold in good faith by him. My lack of knowledge let me buy a bad one.

Okay, well in that case, if it was sold to you as original, just send it back for a refund, tell him why, if he is a decent fellow, you should have no issues.

Wilf that is a great help, thanks a lot. I don't suppose you have a photo of the back as well do you?

Thanks again,

Michael
