Default Printed RN Trade Badge
I have just been shown this printed Telegraphist's trade badge which is identical in manufacture to the Combined Operations badge shown alongside it.

I had not come across this style of RN printed badge before. Are they common?

A fascinating find - RN printed insignia is certainly not something I was aware of beside for Combined Operations

I have a couple but don't really know much about them, though mine aren't red/black, is that what you are specifying?

Nice examples Jon the signals badge is fairly uncommon the combined ops badges do turn up regards steve

This is the printed gunner's badge I have in my collection.
It came together with some other Maritime RA badges.

Further to printed badges.
AFO 2938 of 18 June 1942
This refers to a new system of pattern numbers for WRNS badges to bring them into line with Naval practice.
(3) The Badges in the colums headed "new pattern numbers" which have the letter X prefixed to the number eg X.60B, are woven or printed and those with no prefix are embroided badges.

It is good to see the word 'printed' used officially in relation to RN badges.
My thoughts were that the woven badges were X badges but now I see there was no official difference between printed and woven badges.

I have this Fleet Air Arm printed patch for Air Fitter 'L' (Electrical), but printed versions of such patches seem to be a bit scarce...

The easiest one to clear up is the blue on white. The embroidered ones were for tropical uniform, basically those that would be worn ashore. The printed ones were for working dress i.e. overalls and No 8s.

The red/blue I don't know. I have never seen them worn on Fore and Aft or Square Rig and can only assume that they were WW2 economy issue for wear on battledress.
