Liverpool Irish Officers ( not )
Yet another example of a spurious badge that someone has gone to some trouble to fabricate.
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/134767386199 (This must be one of the most reproduced badges ever) P.

Jeez Peter, I've got to be honest - I'd have bought that.....but I am new to the game.
What's the giveaway mate? Please give me a steer so I can avoid yet more fakes going forward. Thanks - G |

Gary,
Officers of the Liverpool Irish post 1939 only ever wore the Caubeen and their badges were die cast with maker marked sliders. Two examples are in the attached photo. Whilst in the field of military badges you can never say never, based on talking to members of the battalion in the past any other badges said to be worn by officers are spurious. Peter

Aside from what Peter mentioned, that bronze badge is not the way most bronzed OSD badge were made. That fake is die stamped with blades added,
not cast or die cast as such badges should be. CB

Peter, CB... Thanks so much.
The knowledge of you guys is simply off the scale - I don't think I'll ever get anywhere near it! As a new collector, the one thing that always amazes me, is that people seem to go to so much trouble to fake something that in reality, is never going to earn them a shed-load of money. Just the tooling, finishing and adding lugs/sliders/blades must be quite an operation - just to sell a handful at £15 a pop.... seems weird to me (unless I'm massively underestimating the market). Anyway - thanks again guys! |

Anything from Mollys1601 is a fake, though I admit to say they look the part, but have been on the end of his returns and ranting so stay well clear as you will buy less than you expect!
