If a forum member, his or hers homework is in need. A very obvious phony.

Not my area of collecting, but possibly down the road. May I ask what tells us it's a fake please.

While I know fa about this badge I'd say the slider is wrong for Woodward and probably comes from the same stable as the J&Co etc slidered badges.

I find it worrying that the fakes are now putting brazing holes in the badges and the crease on the slider, both of which I used to take as signs of being original badges. It is getting more and more difficult for the average collector to sort out the fakes now especially just from photos on ebay! Thank you to our more experienced members for pointing out the fakes to us before we bid on them, especially when seller says "NO RETURNS" Denis

There was a very helpful thread on Essex and Suffolk Cyclists but it sadly seems to have been deleted. |

Could someone please say what exactly makes the badge in the opening post a duffer?. It's been referred to as a fake and a phoney but no precise reasons are given as to why that is. I know we have no desire to encourage the fakers but when badges are as well made as the one in question then they obviously need no encouragement. It just gets a bit tiresome when forum members are left in the dark over the exact details of why these badges are so-called fakes.

There was a very good thread Hoot which pointed out the indicators like the hollow jewels in the crown, differences in the flags etc. Comparison pics of good v’s bad.
Sadly that thread has been deleted else I’d have linked it. |

Hope all is well with you? I am not knowledgeable enough to comment specifically on the badge itself, but I can help in a small way with regard to (as Andy Magpie alludes) the fake Woodward slider attached to it.
